Percy Jackson and The Battle of the Labyrinth

Disclaimer: In Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth, they use the term “gods” as a swear word. However, since they specifically refer to the Greek gods, I did not feel it fell under the category of a swear word for my grading system.

BAA

In the last book, Percy found out he was destined to either destroy or save the gods of Olympus. So no pressure there. In this book, Percy and Annabeth find a secret entrance to Daedalus’s labyrinth within Camp Half-blood. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out Luke is planning to use that entrance to attack Camp Half-blood. Desperate to keep their friends and home safe, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover enter the Labyrinth to find Daedalus and stop Luke.

This is also the first book that Percy and Annabeth kiss. Yay!!! I love them as a couple. Ever since the first book, I wanted them to end up together, so the kiss scene is extremely satisfying. However, their relationship growing past a simple friendship leads me to give the romance category a B instead of the A the other Percy Jackson books received. While I love romance in the novels I read, not everyone does, hence the B.

The language and violence stay at the same level in this book as the previous books, so they maintain the A grade. There are many fights, but Rick Riordan does a great job keeping the descriptions appropriate for all ages. No crazy description of blood or guts, just Percy and his friends finding unique ways to succeed in their quest.

If you liked the books before, you definitely need to read this one. To me, each book in this series is better than the last.

If you want to buy the book, you can find it here.

    Messenger by Lois Lowry

Lois Lowry is killing me with these open endings! Don’t get me wrong I have enjoyed every book in this series so far, but they all feel like they end in the middle of the story, not the end. It’s incredibly frustrating and Messenger follows that same pattern. I never realized how much I…

Rise of the Evening Star was exponentially better than the first Fablehaven book. In this story, Kendra and Seth once again have to help their grandparents at Fablehaven, a magical creatures nature preserve. They have to find and remove an ancient artifact to a new preserve because the Evening Star organization has compromised Fablehaven.

    Fablehaven

I liked Fablehaven. I did not love it. It was fine. Don’t get me wrong; it had a lot of interesting ideas. I loved the idea of having preserves for magical creatures so they didn’t go extinct. I loved the idea that there are extremists who want to let chaos into the world and have…

“Lady Terra! Lady Terra!” shouted Millie as she ran up to her. “Look what Momma just gave me.” She extended her hands displaying the potted plant she clutched between them. Her eyes shined as she smiled up at Lady Terra. “It’s my very first plant. Momma said it was all my responsibility.” “Wow, that is…

Read part one here and part two here. “Granma!” the boy yelled running up to a withered old woman. “Tell me a story!” “Calm down, calm down,” she laughed. “I’m not as young as I once was. Now sit down and tell me which story you want to hear.” “The one about the earth,” the…
