Fablehaven Grip of the Shadow Plague

So I started this series because my niece and nephew suggested it. After the first book, I was wondering if this was a series I really wanted to finish. After the second, I decided it was probably worth finishing. This third book, Grip of the Shadow Plague, made me so happy I continued this series. Now I know for sure I need to finish the last two books. (And I will.)

This book is the first moment we see Kendra and Seth being split up. Kendra travels to a different preserve to find another hidden artifact, and Seth has to stay at Fablehaven despite his protests. While Kendra is gone, Seth’s curiosity and mischievous behavior lead to discovering a deadly plague spreading across Fablehaven. Magical creatures are turning dark in a way never seen before. Without both Kendra and Seth, this could be the end of Fablehaven.

Romance-A

Kendra finds a boy she likes! It’s so cute. He is a dragon-tamer named Gavin. Unfortunately, nothing happens in this book except the mentioning that Kendra thought he was cute, but I hope something comes from their interactions in later books. I really want Kendra to be happy. She keeps getting thrown into scary situations. She never really wanted to be an adventurer. Sure, she was excited to learn about magical creatures, but I bet she would have been happy with a quiet life. Instead, she keeps almost losing the ones she loves over and over. That is a lot of trauma for a 14-year-old girl to go through. That’s why I hope she gets a cute boy who can understand everything she’s going through concerning Fablehaven. Sure, she has Seth, but sometimes you need someone more than your brother to understand you.

Violence-B

We’ve got dragons and evil centaurs and demons to deal with in this book. All the big magical creatures are coming out of the woodwork and with that, there are more conflicts. With the Shadow Plague turning magical creatures evil at Fablehaven our main characters are running out of allies. Luckily, one of their biggest allies is the Fairy Queen. In this book, we see the first huge clash between dark and light. Sure there have been skirmishes before but nothing on this scale. This book feels more epic than the first two.

Swearing-A

Swearing? What swearing? The Grip of the Shadow Plague follows the same format as the other books and there is no swearing in it. This really is a Young Adult series made for everyone.

I can’t wait to read the next book! If you want to buy this one you can find it here.

    Fablehaven

I liked Fablehaven. I did not love it. It was fine. Don’t get me wrong; it had a lot of interesting ideas. I loved the idea of having preserves for magical creatures so they didn’t go extinct. I loved the idea that there are extremists who want to let chaos into the world and have…

“Lady Terra! Lady Terra!” shouted Millie as she ran up to her. “Look what Momma just gave me.” She extended her hands displaying the potted plant she clutched between them.
