Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters

Disclaimer: In Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, they use the term “gods” as a swear word, but since they specifically refer to the Greek gods, I did not feel it fell under the category of a swear word for my grading system.

If you’ve read my review on Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, there might be some similar ideas here, so sorry. That being said, I LOVE Percy Jackson. His character is so fun and exciting to watch grow up. This book is friendly for all ages, and I highly recommend reading it with or to your kids. Or just read it for yourself.

The Sea of Monsters is the second of five in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. A quick synopsis: Someone poisons the tree guarding the camp all the half-bloods (demi-gods) attend. In order to save it, they have to find the golden fleece. Hence, the adventures begin, and shenanigans ensue.

There is really no romance in this book, but the idea of romance is touched upon. There is a tad more violence in this book than in the last. However, Rick Riordan describes that violence in a way that is more humorous than graphic. As for swearing, I didn’t notice any besides what I mention in the disclaimer above.

If you like Greek mythology at all, I cannot recommend these books enough. Seriously, if you can’t buy it, get it from the library. It will be worth it.

  • Otherwise Engaged

If you like Regency-era romances, then you’ll probably like Otherwise Engaged. Like many Jane Austen-style books, this is a love story. There is no violence, and no use of current swear words. However, it is entirely dedicated to the romance between the main characters.

    Nation

I’m a bit ashamed to admit that this is my first Terry Pratchett book. I have read Good Omens, but since both Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman wrote that book, I don’t really count it as reading a Terry Pratchet book. As a fantasy lover, for years, I have had people suggest I read Terry…

    Son By Lois Lowry

Finally! Answers! Did it give me all the answers I wanted? No, but it covered enough to give me a sense of a satisfying ending. If you’ve seen my other posts about the books in this series you know I’ve been craving answers since book 1. Son, finally, provides some answers. That being said let’s get…

    Messenger by Lois Lowry

Lois Lowry is killing me with these open endings! Don’t get me wrong I have enjoyed every book in this series so far, but they all feel like they end in the middle of the story, not the end. It’s incredibly frustrating and Messenger follows that same pattern. I never realized how much I…
